For this assignment, I would like for you to research information and estimate what a family of four (two parents, two young children) in your area (or where you’re from) would have to pay annually food, toiletries, housing,utilities, health care, medical/prescriptions, transportation, child care, clothing, laundry, taxes, insurance, household items, education, miscellaneous things like internet, cable, phones/cell plans, subscriptions, pets, emergencies.
What figures do you end up with?
How does this sum of money compare with the official poverty line of $22,213 in 2010 for a family of four?
Can a family survive on an income near the poverty line? Why or why not?
In what ways does growing up in a poor family limit the chances of children to succeed as adults?
Would you support policies or programs to assist a family like this? What would you recommend should be done?
