Animal Observation Assignment Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to observe animal behavior and to apply what you have learned from Chapter 5 in an analysis of the behavior you observe. In the spirit of this chapter, please be objective, please study overt behavior, and DON’T make an inference as to what the animal is thinking. Assignment: 1. Give background on the animal you are studying. (2-4 sentences). 2. Indicate a behavior or two that you are studying (e.g. stimulus used and response observed). Describe the behavior, and the environmental context in which the behavior occurs (e.g. in a dark room, or a noisy city street). 3. Pick two of the following: How does this behavior involve operant conditioning, classical conditioning, punishment, stimulus discrimination, or stimulus generalization? Explain. Describe how: Note: If you do not have a pet, you may use a friend’s pet, or go to a pet store and observe an animal there (just don’t hang out for too long, as they may think you’re weird and kick you out!!)
