A theme should be a specific phrase, not a word or a sentence. Examples of themes might be The disjointed identity of the middle class worker or The increasing importance of branding oneself at work or Teamwork in the white collar workplace.

 

The essay should be minimum 4 pages and use MLA format for overall formatting, in-text citations, and the Works Cited. The works you are analyzing must be cited, and you are not required to include secondary sources for this paper.

 

Introduction: In 1-2 paragraphs, give your topic background and context (including the titles and authors of the works you are examining). The introduction should build smoothly to your thesis.

Thesis: In one sentence at the end of the introduction, name the theme that runs through the works you have selected.

 

Body Paragraphs: The paper body should consist of focused and well-developed paragraphs that address how the theme is seen in each work.

 

Conclusion: The conclusion paragraph should lend the paper closure in whatever manner you choose.
