Discussion 2

Welcome to Discussion 2. As before, you need to post before you can see the posts of others. Make sure you provide some substantive comment on two other students’ posts by the due date in order to earn all points! You have 2 choices of direction for this discussion post. Choose one of the following options:

Choose one OCRD presented in Chapter 5 and discuss why you agree OR disagree with its inclusion as an OCRD, using scientific evidence provided in the text book, journal articles, or that you have learned about in other courses. Then provide your opinion regarding BOTH the potential benefits and drawbacks of attaching this disorder to OCD. These could include the effect on patients, providers, the health care system, society at large, or other thoughts you have. Exposure has been put forth as the most effective and preferred front line treatment for many disorders discussed so far, in both chapters 4 and 5. Something your book doesn’t talk about too much is the fact that many clinicians refuse to use exposure-based treatments despite the overwhelming evidence suggesting they work very well. Discuss BOTH the ethical concerns about asking an individual to move towards their fear and discomfort and sit with it, as well as the alternative, not using the most effective treatment for a client/patient. Then, put yourself in either the client/patient OR therapist shoes and discuss if you would prefer an exposure-based treatment AND why you would make this choice.
