Management guru Peter Drucker famously said “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things” – are managers and leaders really all that different?

  • Review the definitions of leaders and managers from your textbook and identify how they distinguish between the two roles.
  • Take a position in favor or against this statement: “a person can be both a manager and a leader at the same time.”  Support your position with specific examples and references to the readings.
  • Discuss the implications of the position that you took for someone in a leadership role?  What about for those being led?
  • Review the positions taken by your classmates and identify one with an opposing perspective that might sway you to think differently.
